Yes, you get that right. From YouTube you can make lot of money. What you need is hardwork and lot of patience which I always refer to. You all have used once in your lifetime. Sometimes while watching a video you will come across advertisement which is very annoying, but these advertisements can make you millionaires, but you have to make sure that video is yours. Millions of people watching you.

YouTube gives you a platform to showcase your videos. Create good videos and upload them on YouTube.  Keep creating videos, as you like, for any niche category, just make sure you are not copying video. Once you have created good number of videos and yiu have a good viewer base, you can create a channel, where you will upload your videos.

Now just activate the monetization option in YouTube,  and you will link your adsense account. As the people with view your videos, they will be shown advertisements, and your account balance will keep updating.
